          Job Description

          MISSION:
          To design, develop price quotes for, and fabricate fixtures and special tooling to support a variety of operations including gate removal, rough machining and target machining on conventional, Computer Numerical Control (CNC) and Electrical Discharge (EDM) machines.
          PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
          1. Fixture Design and Machining
          Objective: to fabricate quality fixtures designed to permit operation with minimal instruction and set-up, yet functional enough to produce quality products.
          Essential Job Functions:
          A. Reviews blueprints and fixture requirements with engineering, operators, technicians to evaluate quality requirements and expected results on wax patterns and castings features.
          B. Designs, repairs and fabricates fixtures capable of delivering desired results.
          C. Assists production operators with fixture set-ups and machine operations.
          D. Troubleshoots and repairs operational, fixture or machine problems to maximize quality or safety.
          E. Determines and orders necessary tools.
          F. Performs fixture layout. (TBO only)
          2. Quoting/Bids (LSBO only)
          Objective: to develop competitive quotes on quality fixturing and meet committed time schedules.
          Essential Job Functions:
          A. Reviews expected results with engineering and supervisor.
          B. Evaluates cost, time, labor and materials, using department accounting.
          C. Identifies sources of materials needed; submits purchase order requests and follows up on ordered materials.
          D. Completes fabrication within expense allowance and committed time frame.
          3. Through-Put Improvements
          Objective: to minimize operator set-up times and optimize machining capabilities through creative fixture design and development.
          Essential Job Functions:
          A. Works with machine operators, engineering and supervisor to evaluate machine and/or operator capabilities and customer requirements.
          B. Works with vendors to improve set-ups and reliability, and minimize repairs.
          C. Establishes priorities with supervisor's input.
          4. Trains less experienced personnel on machining and fixturing as assigned. (LSBO only)
          5. Safety
          Objective: to take responsibility for and demonstrate safe work practices.
          Essential Job Functions:
          A. Adheres to plant and department safety rules.
          B. Safely operates all machines and equipment.
          C. Designs and fabricates tooling and fixturing to maximize safety.
          D. Identifies and reports safety problems.
          6. Meets all production and quality standards.
          OTHER (MARGINAL) ACCOUNTABILITIES:
          7. Completes logs and records.
          8. Performs other tasks as directed.
          ESSENTIAL EQUIPMENT, VEHICLES, TOOLS AND/OR MACHINERY USED:
          1. Grinders (pedestal and surface)
          2. Saw (power band)
          3. Dimensional measuring tools (calipers, micrometers, gauges, etc.)
          4. Hoist
          5. Forklift
          6. Basic hand tools (hammers, wrenches, screwdrivers, files, punches, etc.)
          7. Lathes
          8. Drill press
          9. Welders
          10. Mills (with digital readout)
          11. Oxyecetelene torch
          12. EDM (Electrical Discharge Machine) (LSBO only)
          TRAINING
          1. PCC's Forklift Driving Safety Certification must be completed.

          Required Experience

          QUALIFICATIONS
          1. Completion of vocational school in machine technology or apprenticeship program and at least 5 years of journeyman machining experience, including blueprint reading and drafting
          OR
          an equivalent combination of classroom training and experience.
          2. Welding experience, with welding certification preferred.
          3. Ability to read, follow and interpret instructions on Tech Cards, manuals and technical specifications.
          4. Ability to perform basic arithmetic calculations. (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division) Algebra and trigonometry helpful.
          5. Ability to work independently and in a team.
          6. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
          7. Ability to design effective fixtures and estimate costs.
          8. Physical ability to perform the essential job functions.
          NOTE: Machinists must supply their own full compliment of hand tools and precision measuring tools to satisfactorily meet quality requirements of the position.
